Born and raised in the Harbor Area as a first-generation Italian-American, Joe Buscaino was first elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2012 to represent the 15th District communities of San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway and Watts.

Councilman Buscaino serves as President Pro Tempore and Chairman of the Trade, Travel and Tourism Committee for the LA City Council, has been appointed by Mayor Garcetti to the South Coast Air Quality Management District and was elected as President of the National League of Cities.

His highest priorities include ensuring the Port of Los Angeles “grows clean” while increasing the number of jobs it can support; Redeveloping the LA Waterfront and making it a regional destination and economic stimulator; Redeveloping Jordan Downs, the largest public housing development in the city and adding to and modernizing park space in his District.

Prior to his election to the City Council, Buscaino served for 15 years as a police officer in the Los Angeles Police Department. He created the LAPD’s first Teen Community Police Advisory Board, an organization that works with teens to problem solve and break the barriers between police and teenagers. His concept was implemented citywide in 2011.

Buscaino graduated Cum Laude, with a BA in Communication from California State University – Dominguez Hills. Joe and his wife, Geralyn, a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, are raising their two children in San Pedro.
