Captain Rebecca E. Ore, USCG LA Sector Commander
Captain Ore assumed the duties of Captain of the Port and Sector Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach in May 2020, where she guides a team of over 550 active duty, reserve and civilian personnel conducting federal maritime safety and security, defense and law enforcement operations throughout the central California coastal region. Her career spans the formulation, funding, implementation, and management of maritime safety and security policies and programs at local, regional and national levels.

Prior to joining Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach, Captain Ore was a National Security Affairs Fellow with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. She previously worked with maritime communities in the Pacific Northwest, the Port of New York and New Jersey, and Louisiana Gulf Coast to lead safety and security operations, develop response plans for contingencies, and respond to disasters including Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. She coordinated multi-agency safety and security operations for the 2004 Republican National Convention and United Nations General Assembly, the Athos 1 oil spill in the Delaware Bay, and Super Bowl XLIV in 2015.

The first among the United States Sea Services, Rebecca will represent the United States in the 2020 Halifax International Security Forum Peace With Women Fellowship. Her policy work includes Director for Maritime Security and Arctic Region Policy at the National Security Council, Program Examiner at the Office of Management and Budget, fellow on the United States House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Homeland Security and analyst in Coast Guard’s Office of Budget and Programs.

She is certified in the National Incident Management System for management of large-scale, multi-jurisdiction incidents. She is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and holds a Master of Public Policy from Princeton University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
