John Cushing

President & CEO

PierPass, Inc.

John Cushing will update us on Pier Pass 2.0 that was implemented last November.

Mr. Cushing, a veteran transportation industry executive and leader, joined PierPass Inc. in 2014 as its president and CEO, overseeing the OffPeak program. Mr. Cushing is also secretariat for the West Coast MTO Agreement (WCMTOA), the Agreement filed with the Federal Maritime Commission for the 12 container terminal operators in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Prior to joining PierPass, from 2009 through 2013, Mr. Cushing led development of SSIT, a greenfield container terminal project on the Thi Vai River at Cai Mep in the south of Vietnam.

In 1999 Mr. Cushing founded eModal and served as its president through 2009. Under his leadership, eModal developed widely used online services to coordinate activities between marine terminals and trucking companies, beneficial cargo owners, and others in the supply chain. Mr. Cushing grew eModal into the nation’s largest port community system, used at 41 marine terminals in 14 ports on both U.S. coasts.

Mr. Cushing’s experience in the transportation industry began in 1982 when he worked as a steamship line agent with Barwil Agencies. He later joined the Port of Los Angeles, where he was marketing manager until he left to start up eModal. Mr. Cushing has a Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation from Arizona State University.
